Invocation of Our Roots
We call upon the traditions of art for social justice, spoken work and yoga. May we know our creative power.
We call upon the traditions of herbalism, healing justice and Earth-based Spirituality. Give us access to the wisdom that exists in our bones.
We call upon the traditions of decolonization, contemplative spirituality, Anti-Racism and Spiritual Activism. May we hone our connection to spirit through organizing, community and prayer.
We call in our center- the United States South- taking inspiration and strategy from this geography first and foremost. We define the US South as, Alabama, Arkansas, DC, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
We call in Liberation School South to be a multiracial, intergenerational school that centers the leadership of those on the margins.

We are deeply inspired and follow tenets of emergent strategy as laid out by adrienne maree brown.
What we believe:
We believe spirituality plays an important role in leadership and liberation.
We value vulnerable leadership and recognize the relationship between pain and liberation.
We recognize that holistic, art, culture and/or spiritual practices are essential to build our resilience and support long haul efforts of liberation work.
We believe in the power of the grassroots and that the people most affected by an issue, should be the ones leading the effort to change it.
We move at the speed of trust (from emergent strategy)
Rhythm over time (from Mystic Soul Project)
We honor our bodies as part of the work of liberation and necessary in order to, create and affect change.
We are bridge builders not gatekeepers.
We hold that healing is a journey that often does not have a straight and defined path, we honor the ways that shows up.
We know that we are profoundly interconnected and that we need each other.
We honor the people of the land we are on and recognize our histories and connections to that land, including the role our ancestors played in stealing the land or having it stolen.
We will show compassion towards ourselves and towards each other as we move through this journey that changes us and pushes us.
